UNIT 10: Microphones in music production.

 

TASK 1:

 Research three microphone types and present your findings in PowerPoint or Word. Include images, pros and cons for each type, price range, phantom power use, distance over which they can work.

TASK 2:

Make a poster explaining:

A)  how microphones are connected to other pieces of equipment

B)  how to solve problems when doing so i.e. fault finding

TASK 3:

Learn to connect dynamic and condenser microphones to a mixer and amplifier.

Make a series of how to videos in which you explain how this is done.

TASK 4 'Putting it all together '

Scenario You have been asked to work as sound crew for the 'Gig in the Core' in December. Explain how you would set up the stage including where performers and equipment will go, which mics will be used, where you will place the mixing desk and PA. You must write about Health & Safety issues as well.

Include: drawings, stage plans, lists of equipment, set list for the evening, health & safety plan, videos etc. 

How will you be assessed?

This unit is pass/fail. You must ensure you have completed all tasks. You must check Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation is mostly accurate.

All work must be labelled with the outcome it covers e.g. '1.1 Describe the key properties of different microphone types'.
